Events Near Whiskey Bird in Virginia Highland and Piedmont Park
One of the best things about Whiskey Bird's location is that we're right in the middle of everything. Virginia Highland and nearby Piedmont Park host some of Atlanta's biggest and best events throughout the year, from neighborhood music festivals to world-class jazz and three-day rock shows. And whether you're looking for a place to eat before you head in, a spot to wind down after a long day on your feet, or somewhere to duck into for a cocktail and a bite when you need a break, we're here for all of it.
We're located at 1409 North Highland Avenue, about 2 miles north of Piedmont Park and right on the Virginia Highland corridor. Most of these events are a short walk, bike ride, or rideshare away. And unlike trying to find a table in Midtown on a festival weekend, we've got a parking lot and a neighborhood that's easy to get in and out of.
Here's what's happening near us throughout the year and why you should make Whiskey Bird part of your game plan.
VaHi Porchfest (May)
This one is literally in our backyard. Porchfest turns the front porches of Virginia Highland homes into stages, with over 100 local bands performing across 50+ porches throughout the neighborhood. The music runs from 11am to 6pm, with food trucks, a vendor market with 50+ local artists, and a Kids Corner at John Howell Park. It's one of those events that feels like the entire neighborhood is throwing a party, because it kind of is.
Porchfest started in 2021 as a small block party during COVID and has grown into one of Atlanta's most popular spring events, drawing upwards of 40,000 people. It's put on by the Virginia Highland District Association, which Anthony serves on the board of, so this one is especially close to our hearts.
Porchfest is a walking festival, and you're going to want fuel. Come to Whiskey Bird for brunch before you start your porch crawl, or swing by after the finale for dinner and cocktails. Our patios are the perfect place to decompress after a day of wandering from porch to porch in the sun. And if you timed it right and Porchfest falls on a Saturday, our happy hour kicks in at 3:00pm with $10 cocktails and seasonal bites.
When: Saturday after Mother's Day in May, 11am to 6pm
Where: Virginia Highland neighborhood porches, near Virginia Ave NE and North Highland Ave
Tickets: Ticketed event. Kids 18 and under free.
Distance from Whiskey Bird: You're already here. A few blocks walk at most.
Atlanta Dogwood Festival (April)
The Dogwood Festival is one of Atlanta's oldest traditions, dating all the way back to 1936. Every spring it takes over Piedmont Park for a weekend of live music, a huge juried fine art market, food vendors, amusement rides, and the popular Mimosa 5K. It's the kind of event that makes you glad Atlanta has the spring weather it does. The dogwoods are blooming, the park is packed, and the whole city feels like it's shaking off winter.
After a day walking the art market and catching live music on the main stage, the last thing you want is to fight for a table in Midtown. Head up North Highland to Whiskey Bird instead. We're just a quick rideshare or drive from Piedmont Park, and you'll skip the post-festival crowds that pile into the restaurants right around the park. Start with the okonomiyaki street fries and a Paper Plane cocktail and you'll feel like a whole new person.
When: Typically a weekend in April (April 10-12 in 2026), Friday through Sunday
Where: Piedmont Park, 400 Park Drive NE
Tickets: Small entrance fee ($5-$10)
Distance from Whiskey Bird: About 2 miles south. A quick 5-10 minute drive or rideshare.
Atlanta Jazz Festival (Memorial Day Weekend)
The Atlanta Jazz Festival is one of the largest free jazz festivals in the country and it's been going strong for nearly 50 years. It takes place over Memorial Day weekend in Piedmont Park, with live performances running from 1pm to 11pm each day across multiple stages. The lineup is always impressive, mixing national headliners with local talent spanning jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and hip-hop. In 2026, the festival featured Kamasi Washington, The Roots, Esperanza Spalding, PJ Morton, and Christian McBride, among others.
Memorial Day weekend is one of the best weekends to be in Atlanta, and the Jazz Festival is a big reason why. Since the shows don't start until 1pm, you have the whole morning free. Come up to Whiskey Bird for a Saturday or Sunday brunch, grab a shaken iced coffee or a Thai Basil Paloma, fill up on the Bao Benedict or the breakfast burrito, and then head down to the park for the afternoon sets. Or catch the evening headliners and come to us for a late dinner after. Either way, you'll eat better than anything the food vendors in the park are serving (no offense to the food vendors).
When: Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25 in 2026), Saturday through Monday, 1pm to 11pm daily
Where: Piedmont Park
Tickets: Free
Distance from Whiskey Bird: About 2 miles south. Easy rideshare, bike, or even a walk along the BeltLine.
VaHi Summerfest (June)
Summerfest is the other big Virginia Highland neighborhood festival and it has been going for over 40 years. It takes place along Virginia Avenue between North Highland Avenue and Park Drive, with the footprint including John Howell Park and the surrounding streets. The festival features 200+ artist and maker vendors, live music, a beverage garden, a KidZone with water slides (which in June is basically a survival necessity), a 5K road race in the morning, and a block party on Saturday night at the corner of North Highland and Virginia that goes until 11pm.
Summerfest is produced by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association as their annual fundraiser, so the money goes directly back into the neighborhood. It's one of those events that really captures what this part of Atlanta is all about: community, creativity, and a good time outside.
We're a short walk from the Summerfest footprint. Come grab brunch or lunch at Whiskey Bird before you hit the art market on Saturday or Sunday, or stop in for happy hour cocktails after browsing the vendors. If you're sticking around for the Saturday night block party, a Whiskey Bird dinner is the perfect way to start your evening before heading over to the live music at North Highland and Virginia.
When: First weekend in June (June 6-7 in 2026), Saturday and Sunday
Where: Virginia Avenue between North Highland Ave and Park Drive
Tickets: Free to attend
Distance from Whiskey Bird: A few blocks. Easy walking distance.
Shaky Knees Music Festival (September)
Shaky Knees is Atlanta's premier rock and indie music festival, and it's a big deal. The three-day event takes over Piedmont Park each fall with four stages and more than 50 acts. This is the kind of lineup that makes people fly into Atlanta for the weekend. In 2026, headliners included Twenty One Pilots, The Strokes, and Gorillaz, with LCD Soundsystem, Wu-Tang Clan, Turnstile, Fontaines D.C., Japanese Breakfast, and dozens more filling out the card.
If you've ever been to a multi-day music festival, you know the drill: you need a real meal before you go in and you need somewhere good to unwind when you come out. That's where we come in. Whiskey Bird is far enough from the festival to avoid the chaos but close enough to be an easy stop before or after. Our dinner menu starts at 4pm on weekdays and our brunch runs through 2:30pm on the weekend, so whether Shaky Knees is a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for you, we've got a window that works. A couple yakitori skewers, a Whiskey Bird Sour, and some gyoza tacos will have you ready for the headliner.
When: Three days in September (September 18-20 in 2026), shows start at 4pm
Where: Piedmont Park
Tickets: Ticketed. Multi-day and single-day passes available.
Distance from Whiskey Bird: About 2 miles south.
VaHi Winterfest (December)
Winterfest brings the holiday spirit to Virginia Highland every December. The day kicks off with the Jingle Jog 5K (holiday costumes highly encouraged), followed by a holiday parade down Lanier Boulevard with festive floats, music, and plenty of cheer. After the parade, the neighborhood opens up into one of the biggest in-town holiday gift markets, with 80+ local makers and artisans selling gifts worth actually giving. There's also a Kids Corner, live music, and the Tour of Lights Block Party on Friday evening with real reindeer, live bands, hot cocoa, and s'mores.
The Virginia-Highland Civic Association has also added a Tour of Homes to the weekend, where you can take a ticketed tour of some of the most beautiful homes in the neighborhood, all dressed up for the holidays.
Winterfest is the kind of day where you want to be outside in the neighborhood, and you're going to need somewhere to warm up and refuel. Come to Whiskey Bird for an early dinner after the market, or start the day with us before the Jingle Jog. Our enclosed, heated back patio is the perfect spot on a December day when you want the outdoor feel without the full commitment to the cold. Order a bourbon cocktail, share some small plates, and enjoy the fact that you just knocked out half your holiday shopping at the gift market down the street.
When: A Saturday in December (typically the second Saturday)
Where: Virginia Highland neighborhood, along Virginia Ave and Lanier Blvd
Tickets: Main festival and parade are free. Tour of Lights and Tour of Homes are ticketed.
Distance from Whiskey Bird: A few blocks walk.
